| Alison Nicholls sketching baobabs in Tarangire, July 2011 |
As you may know, sketching in the field is a vital part of my work. And I have been very fortunate to have traveled to some amazing places to pursue my sketching. This location, Tarangire National Park in northern Tanzania, is a beautiful area, bursting with baobabs. I was with Laly Lichtenfeld and Buddy Trout of the African People & Wildlife Fund. We were looking for Fringe-eared Oryx but had stopped for some breakfast and I managed to fit this sketch in, just before it rained.

| Baobab Field Sketch by Alison Nicholls, Tarangire, Tanzania, July 2011. |
I decided to include only the 2 baobabs on the right, so that I could sketch them a little larger. The watercolor was added later. Once I finished sketching I wolfed down my breakfast, partly because everyone else was finishing up and ready to go, partly because I was afraid they were going to finish up my breakfast too. The trials and tribulations of a field sketch artist!
Until next time...

trabajas siempre con apuntes o tambien utilizas la fotografia?
ReplyDeleteDear Jorge,
ReplyDeleteI translated your comment and I believe you were asking whether I use notes and photos to allow me to add the watercolor later? Sometimes I write notes about the colors (or paint small areas) on the sketch. But here I just painted what I remembered. I use color to create a mood so I don't just paint exactly what I see, I paint what creates the mood for the sketch.
Thanks for your comment!
